2023 Met Gala Recap

This year's Met Gala, raising money for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, carried the theme “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty.” Satin, monochrome, pearl, and the signature Chanel Camellia were all used to the point of almost breaking good taste. Winners for me last night were Jenna Ortega, Jennie Kim, and Emma Chamberlain. Emma’s powder blue, Jennie’s perfect accessories, Jenna’s entire ensemble... These three ladies understood what so many others on the carpet missed last night, the DETAILS.

The best participants of the evening's theme understood how to stick to Karl’s staples while also infusing their own style. As the Ball evolves, BLACK women continue to take the cake. Teyana Taylor and Keke’s dresses, both rooted in the tweeds of Iconic Chanel.

For the furry fashions dedicated to Chaupette (Lagerfeld's pet cat), my number one pick is, of course, Doja Cat (meow), followed by Jared Leto, and last place goes to Lil Nas X. As a point of note, Jared Leto is weird, furries are not.

Whatever Kim and the Jenner sisters did was beyond a snooze. Reading from the left: Why did Kendall do that to her moms dress from the 2011 Jenner family holiday card? How is Kim still holding on to the dress from the, “You’re doing amazing sweetie!” scene from KUWTK? And why is Kylie dressed for an entirely different event?

My 2023 Met ‘NO’s” were easy, but may surprise you. First, Jennifer Lopez is on the list for the awful hat she apparently added against her better judgment at the last minute. Olivia Wilde is here, obviously, because Anna punished her with that dress. And finally, Lil Nas X made it on the list for showing up in ugly panties (the only person who gets to do that is Madonna, who was noticeably absent).
